The Media Technology Program offers students the opportunity to enter the exciting field of media. Students become active participants in the production process; creating scripts, visualizing shot sequences, and shooting and editing footage in order to create finished products. In the Advanced Animation class, students use state-of-the-art software and computers to create realistic computer-generated animation projects. Students will gain experience in object modeling and character animation, providing a rich foundation in the field. Students will also be able to pursue the valuable OSHA10 Certification as well as certifications in Adobe Premiere Pro. (Note: A unit earned in the Advanced Animation class will count as a Computer Science unity for the South Carolina High School Diploma.)

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Media Technology I

Grades: 10-12 / Approximate Fees: $15
Prerequisite: None
This introduction course focuses primarily on video production, giving basic instruction in scripting, camera operation, and editing. This course also covers job skills and distribution formats for a variety of mediums, including Internet, film, and broadcast. Students will produce finished products, following the production from initial concept to finished video.

Media Technology II

Grades: 11-12 / Approximate Fees: $15
Prerequisite:  After taking Media 1, it is not necessary for Media 2 and Advanced Animation to be taken in sequential order; however, a student must have an 80 or above in order to advance to the next course chosen (or Director approval).

In Media Technology II, students expand their experience and knowledge in all aspects of the production process. Students learn to use the tools in Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Audition. These industry-standard programs provide students with the tools they need to take their skills to the next level in editing, effects, and audio production.

Advanced animation

Grades: 10-12 *Students are allowed to take Advanced Animation before Media II* Approximate Fees: $15
Prerequisite: After taking Media 1, it is not necessary for Media 2 and Advanced Animation to be taken in sequential order; however, a student must have an 80 or above in order to advance to the next course chosen (or Director approval).

This course teaches the fundamentals of 3D animation and design and gives students the knowledge and skills necessary for a career in animation. Instruction will utilize Autodesk's Maya, which is the industry standard for animation in television, film, and video game animation. Students design and create character models, animate them, and produce a finished short for their final project. Taught in the spring, this class will also cover college/career ready basics including resume writing, college applications, and financial aid.
